About IGS Local Chapters


The Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) is a highly esteemed professional organization dedicated to the advancement of Geotechnical Engineering in India. The Local Chapters of the Society were introduced in 1968, and at present, fifty-two (52) Local Chapters (Ujjain recently formed) are functional.


About Civil Engineering, IIT Indore

Since its founding in 2016, the Department of Civil Engineering has been committed to leading the way in both basic and applied research with the goal of solving problems in the real world. Offering a comprehensive four-year program culminating in a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, M. Tech, as well as a PhD program, the department actively engages in sponsored research projects supported by various entities within the Government of India and global industries.


Faculty members are self-motivated and internationally experienced, boasting expertise across a spectrum of civil engineering disciplines including Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering. With a vision to become a leading academic center nationally and globally, the Department of Civil Engineering emphasizes active industry engagement and seeks collaborations on both national and international levels.
